Dr. Tylithia L. Burks
October 3, 2020, our beautiful angel, TT transitioned to dwell in the light and love of the most high. Today and every day, we must commemorate the extraordinary life of a woman, and not reflect on the disease. TT was a combat warrior. More importantly, she was a self-made woman determined to motivate others, live by example, and confidently lift her head high with an unbreakable spirit.
Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Killeen, Texas, TT was an avid learner with a deep love for people and science. She eagerly lived her life to the fullest and did not fall short of exhibiting this to anyone she encountered. As a Nuclear Pharmacist, she was a proud alumna of Xavier University of Louisiana, B.S. – Biology, '04; Texas Southern University, M.S. – Biology, '07; and Doctor of Pharmacy, '10.
She had an effervescent spirit with a strong faith in God. On her off days, she traveled the world, planted seeds in her garden, cooked Korean dishes, attended ballets, cared for her dogs; and bonded with her friends and god-children. She had an impact on many people with her generosity and passion for life.
Throughout her 38 years of life and in death, she has exhibited several acts of kindness through her service to the community, and supported many organizations, such as Xavier University of Louisiana, Texas Southern University, College of Pharmacy, The K.O.V.E.N.A.N.T. Foundation; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Pulse of Perseverance; Healthcare for the Homeless; Higher Dimension Church; Meals on Wheels; Susan G. Komen Foundation; Star of Hope; Soles 4 Souls; The BC Program and many other organizations. She has also afforded scholarships to many young student scholars.
In 2021, The Dr. Tylithia L. Burks Foundation was founded to preserve the philanthropic legacy of Dr. Tylithia L. Burks and her zeal for education, leadership, youth, health, religion, global causes, and the local community. Through the foundation, her spirit of giving and drive to have an impact on others will live on. #GiveLikeTT #MatchHerEnergy #RememberingTT
“I think anything that happens to you in life, you just take the approach of God’s got your back, your friends are around you, your support system is going to be there and you’ll be okay. Take it day-by-day and whatever you’re doing, whatever you’re going throughout, you can get through it. As long as you put one foot in front of the other, you’ll always get through it.” - Tylithia L . Burks
